MORTON PLANT MEASE 2ND CENTURY CAMPAIGN

In an era of rising health care cost, our challenge is not only to maintain community support for the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease, but also to preserve and enhance our current services and facilities. We hope that you will join us once again as we embark on the second phase of our 2nd Century Campaign, which requires raising our campaign goal to $100 million over the next five years.

As we embark on the most comprehensive campaign in our history, led by Chairman Keith Clark, only the infusion of private dollars can jumpstart this process. The Foundation’s Board of Directors has challenged our community to raise the additional $40 million in the following areas:

- Cancer Campaign, chaired by Ruth duPont: $10 million

- Campaign for Morton Plant North Bay Hospital: $5 million

- Womens and Children’s Campaign: $15 million

- Campaign for Mease Dunedin Hospital, chaired by Wally and Bunny Dutton: $10 million

Cancer Campaign - Planning for a Brighter Future
The Axelrod Pavilion, currently in the planning stages, will be a new state-of-the-art facility on the Morton Plant Hospital campus thanks to a lead gift by Shirley Axelrod – a lung cancer survivor. This new facility will have a particular focus on Cancer Care services and will include oncology physician and surgeon offices, as well as the relocated Susan Cheek Needler Breast Center.

The Axelrod Pavilion will build on our legacy of total cancer care – first brought together by Bernie and Mary Ann Powell in memory of Christy Powell Higgins. This new facility will provide much needed additional space for our ever-expanding cancer program, including the opportunity to add a breast MRI to the Morton Plant campus.

The two key physician leaders on this project are Peter Blumencranz, MD, medical director of Morton Plant Mease Cancer Services, and Barbara Bourland, MD, medical director of Breast Imaging Services.

Campaign For Morton Plant North Bay Hospital
Something exciting is happening at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. Over the next three years, a $49 million expansion will lead to increased capabilities, improved services and a continued commitment to caring for our community in a whole new way. This expansion will be the largest in Morton Plant North Bay’s history, and will offer more space, technology and quality to our existing facility.

Campaign For Mease Dunedin Hospital

The Campaign for Mease Dunedin Hospital will encompass more than 51,000 square feet of renovation, 4,000 square feet of new construction and will emphasize expanding the operating rooms and creating a new critical care unit for patients requiring intensive care. At completion of this project, 82 percent of the Mease Dunedin campus will be renovated.

- OR Expansion: Planned to open in early 2009, the OR expansion includes increasing the number of operating suites from four to seven and doubling their size to accommodate the high volume of orthopaedic and neurosurgery cases. These new operating rooms will feature the latest equipment, including digital equipment and voice activation to view X-rays and images.

- New Critical Care Unit: The new critical care unit will provide 20 private rooms for patients requiring intensive care and is being designed around the special needs of our patients with larger rooms for care and the patient’s family.

- BayCare Alliant Hospital: The space once occupied by labor, delivery and maternity has been renovated to house the new 48-bed BayCare Alliant Hospital – the only non-profit, long-term acute care facility in north Pinellas County.
