Morton Plant HospitalThe Morton Plant Mease Foundation is proud to announce we have surpassed our $60 million campaign goal for the 2nd Century Campaign as Morton Plant Hospital nears completion of its $84 million expansion, the largest in its 89 year history.
Many services on the ground and basement floors of the hospital are complete, such as the elevators, sterile supply department, loading dock and histology. A new kitchen and cafeteria, education meeting rooms, pharmacy, endoscopy and respiratory therapy are scheduled to open this spring.
The signature project, Morton Plant's new Morgan Heart Hospital named by Larry Morgan, which opened in mid-2006, brings new technology to advance direct patient care. The new Morgan Heart Hospital includes four new computerized, voice-activated open heart surgery rooms, four cardiac catheterization labs, 21 critical cardiac patient rooms and dedicated waiting areas. Digital technology is a primary feature of the new Morgan Heart Hospital.
Morton Plant has been providing comprehensive heart and vascular services for the past thirty years. The largest number of open-heart surgeries in Pinellas County are performed at Morton Plant by a team of board-certified cardiac surgeons.

Mease ~ New Emergency Room Bears the Name of Safety Harbor Business MenThanks in part to the generosity of father and son, Bill & Bobby Jacobsen, a brand new $18 million Emergency Room at Mease Countryside Hospital has opened to serve patients in North Pinellas County. Bill & Bobby, long-time business owners in Safety Harbor, chose to support their neighborhood hospital with a multi-million dollar gift because of the care their family received at Morton Plant Mease Health Care.
With 40 patient treatment rooms and 32,000 square feet, the Jacobsen ER is nearly triple the size of the hospital's previous department. Mease Countryside operates the fastest growing emergency room in Pinellas County. From 1999 to 2001 ER visits increased by nearly 20 percent making the ER the third busiest in the county.
Among the features of Mease Countryside's new emergency department:
~A spacious open floor plan with 4-foot tall countertops, allowing for the entire ER to be viewed and monitored without obstruction ~Digital x-ray equipment, a computed tomography (CT) scanner within the emergency department, providing physicians and patients with immediate radiology information ~Three treatment rooms equipped for critical cases ~Eight private fast track treatment rooms for minor illnesses and injuries ~two triage rooms ~streamlined processes for faster lab results ~Two plasma TV screens displaying a tracking system of patient care throughout the emergency department
"In planning the new emergency department, we also looked at our processes to reduce wait times. Our goal is to provide quality patient care as quickly as possible," Roberto Bellini, M.D., a board certified emergency room physician and medical director of emergency services for Mease Countryside Hospital.
The Jacobsen Emergency Room is the last major new construction phase of a $99 million expansion and renovation project at Mease Countryside. In May of this year, the hospital's new Shaffer Tower opened. The tower includes a women's and children's center and the only Level III NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) in North Pinellas and Pasco Counties.
